We follow the Development Matters Curriculum and plan activities and tasks based on the children’s interests. Children are encouraged to develop at their own pace and take ownership of their learning. Topics are dictated by children’s interests and change regularly depending on what the children are interested in, for example, one year ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ was a firm favourite with the children and led to us exploring a topic on bears. Last year, children really enjoyed books by the author ‘Julia Jarman’ so we decided to learn all about the author and explore her stories in more depth. We really enjoyed exploring rhyming words and acting out and making up our own stories!
Two qualified teachers are employed who work alongside nursery staff to ensure that children are able to play and learn in order to achieve their full potential and are ready for their eventual move to school.
Learning Journal
Every child in the nursery has their learning recorded in their Learning Journal. This is a way of recording how your child learns and makes progress during their time with us. Learning Journals contain photos, observations and records of child initiated and adult led activities, all of which help us to build up a picture of your child and help decide what their ‘next steps’ will be.
